How Bonaire handles your pet
Key points
- Where your pet is coming FROM matters here, and it can stop the trip outright
- Douane Caribisch Nederland prohibits bringing in — or transiting — dogs and cats arriving from any mainland country of South or Central America, with Suriname the single exception
- There is one way round it: the ban does not apply to someone taking up permanent residence on Bonaire, Sint Eustatius or Saba who has owned the animal for four months or more
- If you are flying from Brazil, Colombia, Panama or anywhere else on those mainlands, confirm your situation with the authority before you book
