  • One document carries the whole trip
  • Egypt's conditions are set out in the bilateral veterinary health certificate agreed with the exporting country's authority — "The requirements for traveling with your pet are described in the health certificate." — so there is no separate permit application and no second form to chase
  • No microchip is needed, which surprises most travellers: "Animal microchips are not required for entry into Egypt" Egypt is one of the few destinations that does not require one
  • A microchip is still worth having (your airline and your home country on the return leg will almost certainly want it), but Egypt will not turn your pet away for lacking one
  • The rabies rule is a window with a ceiling, not a waiting period: "NOTE: The rabies vaccination must have been administered within the last 12 months, and the pet must arrive in Egypt at least 30 days prior to the twelve month anniversary of vaccine administration
  • (i.e. the pet can arrive no later than 11 months after rabies vaccine was administered)." Read the 30 days carefully — it counts back from the vaccine's twelve-month anniversary, not from your flight
  • In practice: vaccinate, then arrive within 11 months
  • Beware summaries that restate this as "vaccinate at least 30 days before entry"; that is a different and unsourced rule
  • Book the vet close to the flight: "This certificate is valid for 14 days after issuance." Fourteen days is tighter than the EU's ten-day rule is generous, because it also has to absorb the endorsement step — "Electronic Signature ACCEPTED; Original Ink Endorsement REQUIRED" — so the certificate must be signed by the accredited vet AND ink-endorsed by the government veterinary authority before you fly
  • Everything beyond rabies is optional: "Other vaccinations, treatments, and/or tests and results (optional - place a diagonal line through the boxes if not used)" That is why this plan shows no titre test, no tapeworm treatment and no parasite treatment for Egypt — they are not omissions, they are absent from the certificate that defines the requirements
  • Dog breeds ARE restricted, and this is the part most sources get wrong
  • Egypt regulates dog ownership under Law No
  • 29 of 2023 on the possession of dangerous animals
  • Its schedules were amended in 2025, and the Egyptian Cabinet's own record of that decision reads: "تعديل أنواع الكلاب الخطرة من 16 نوعا إلى 3 أنواع فقط، و27 نوعا من الكلاب يجوز ترخيصها وتسجيلها، ولكن بالاشتراطات الفنية الخاصة بالهيئة العامة للخدمات البيطرية" — in translation, the dangerous-dog list was cut from 16 types to 3, while 27 breeds may be licensed and registered subject to the technical conditions of the General Organization for Veterinary Services (GOVS)
  • So a banned breed cannot be brought in at all, and a great many common breeds need a GOVS licence rather than nothing
  • We are deliberately not listing the three banned breeds here
  • The decree that names them — Ministry of Agriculture Decree 218 of 2025, published in the Official Gazette (Al-Waqa'i' al-Misriyya) issue 106 of 13 May 2025 — is not published online, and GOVS hosts no copy
  • Press reports name them as the Fila Brasileiro, the Boerboel and the Presa Canario, but we have not seen the text and cannot confirm it
  • If you are travelling with a mastiff-type or a breed commonly classed as dangerous, contact GOVS (govs.gov.eg) or an Egyptian consulate for the current schedule before you book
  • Still unconfirmed: which airports or seaports are designated for pet arrivals
  • GOVS is the competent authority but publishes no pet-import conditions online, and an airline's route map is not the same thing as a designated veterinary entry point — ask GOVS or your airline before you travel

Chronologie
