Wizz Air comes up on every cheap route across Central and Eastern Europe, and the pet answer is short: not allowed on board. The exception is guide dogs, and they travel free of charge — that part is stated plainly, which I appreciate more than airlines that leave it vague. Emotional support animals are refused outright. Cooper has never flown Wizz and never will.

Here's what I wish someone had told me: on these routes the cheap flight and the pet-friendly flight are almost never the same flight, and pricing them against each other wastes a week. Go straight to the carriers that publish a pet policy, check the cabin weight limit against your carrier and your dog together, and build the plan from there. We've all been there.
