- Sarawak sets its own pet-import rules under section 9(1) of its Veterinary Public Health Ordinance 1999, and issues its own import permit — one is required even for a pet travelling from peninsular Malaysia or Sabah
- Quarantine is decided by the rabies antibody titre rather than by origin alone: above 0.5 IU/ml there is none, below it fourteen days, and thirty days where the pet is vaccinated but the titre is unknown
- Pets arriving from the United Kingdom, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Sweden or Brunei are exempt from quarantine
- The pet must be at least three months old and must not be pregnant
